5-Day Mara River Crossing Great Migration An Insider’s Guide
This 5-Day Mara River Crossing Great Migration allows you to watch the huge migration at the Mara River and stay in fantastic hotels. Serengeti Smile will immerse you into the unspoiled nature of the real Africa as you will see animals up close and take photos of the beautiful landscapes of Tanzania. All this with the support of a tour operator based in Arusha, full board on safari, your own English speaking guide and private use of a 4X4 Jeep (mineral water, power plugs and binoculars).
The Mara River crossing is the most dramatic phase of the Great Wildebeest Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebra brave treacherous, crocodile-infested waters and steep riverbanks as they move between the Serengeti (Tanzania) and the Masai Mara (Kenya) in search of fresh grazing.
A Detailed 5-Day Mara River Crossing Great Migration Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
With lunch boxes, leave your lodge and start a beautiful journey to Tarangire National Park.
Tarangire is famous for its large herds of elephants and varied terrain from seasonal swamp to savanna, with the Tarangire River running through the parklands. We could spot a lion stalking its prey, or leopards watching us as we relax in the trees above. After the game drives we proceed to your lodge for relax, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Central Serengeti National Park
After breakfast drive to Central Serengeti National Park for game viewing. Have your lunch at some good area within the park. In the afternoon we will resume the game drive activity before reaching camp.
The Serengeti is famous for its large migrating herds of zebra, antelope and wildebeest. Be prepared to see native predators leopard, cheetah and lion playing their part in the wheel of life.
Day 3: Northern Serengeti for the Great Migration
We will have an early breakfast before driving to the Northern Serengeti National Park. We will camp on the banks of the Mara River where the huge migration is unfolding. Our safari guide will locate the ideal viewpoint to see the action.
The great migration is the main movement of herds of wildebeest, zebra and other animals as they cross the Mara River into Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. This is where the action occurs – the migrating animals have to traverse the crocodile-infested Mara River! The best time to see the migration is anytime between July and early October of each year.
Day 4: Northern Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater
Another great day in store! Early wake up, breakfast and drive to Northern Serengeti National Park for a game drive with a chance of more sightings. In the afternoon we drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, to our hotel on the crater rim.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
We leave the Ngorongoro Crater after breakfast for a day of game viewing and beautiful scenery. After the game drives are over, we will transport you back to Arusha where our safari ends.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact caldera in the world and one of the natural wonders of Africa! Around 30 000 huge mammals live all year round (buffaloes, lions, elephants, cheetahs and rhinos). Also many birds (flamingos, eagles and buzzards).
